You may soon be able to complete all the boring “government” work done at a single destination.

The state cabinet on Monday gave its approval to the Delhi Online project - that has been christened “Jeevan” - under which kiosks will be set up all over the city to provide single window facilities for a number of services relating to various departments of the Delhi government and also other agencies like MCD, NDMC and MTNL.

Chief minister Sheila Dikshit said: ‘‘We have identified 23 departments and 104 services that will be covered under this project. Initially, 45 of the services will be made available and the service will be gradually widened. The kiosks will be developed as integrated citizen service centres that can be used as a shared delivery infrastructure by all government agencies and some business’’.

She added that services concerning MCD, DDA, DJB, Discoms, NDMC, DTTDC, fire services, MTNL etc will be included under the project. There would also be facilities for payment of bills, issue of different forms, applications and information brochures.

The MCD services which are included under the project are registration of birth and death, booking of parks and community hall, renewal and issue of Teh Bazari, collection of property taxes etc, collection of application for building sanction plan and on-line admission of students in primary schools.

According to sources in the department of information technology, the initial plan is to open about 1,500 kiosks all across the city including in prominent government offices like the divisional commissioner’s offices.

The kiosks will be managed by a private agency and will have back-end access to government departments/agencies and private concerns that choose to become a part of it.

The National Institute of Smart Governance in Hyderabad had conducted an "e-readiness" study of various government departments, based on which the 23 departments have been selected. Through the backend connection via lease lines, there will be facilities for real-time updating of data.
